Galway Bay fm newsroom – There are plans to carry out repairs at Meelick Weir on the river Shannon.
The works, in the townland of Keeloge, also involve the replacement of the walkway which was damaged by flooding.
The works led by Waterways Ireland involve the construction of a new steel walkway.
This would be 300 metres and would replace the existing structure which was badly damaged as a result of flooding.
The existing plant house will be relocated to allow a new ramped access to be constructed for public use of the walkway.
Masonry repairs are to be made to the original weird structure and the weir boards will be replaced with new tilting weirs to improve safety.
An Environmental Impact Statement and a Natura Impact Statement have also been prepared in respect of the proposed works.
County planners are due to make a decision next month.
