National flooding conference gets underway in Ballinasloe

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A national conference on flooding is underway in Ballinasloe.
The event was officially opened by OPW Minister and Galway East TD Sean Canney at Gullane’s Hotel at 10am.
The conference is hosted by the National Flood Forum in association with Flood Alleviation Ballinasloe.
In his opening address, Minister Canney made reference to the investment of 430 million euro for flood risk management works between 2016 and 2021.
He also outlined a number of priorities for his department, including the provision of insurance for previously flooded home owners and businesses.
Topics being discussed at today’s conference include insurance, turlough investigation, the Shannon working group and humanitarian aid.
