Galway Bay fm newsroom – The OPW is facing criticism over the exclusion of South Galway from a series of public consultation meetings on flood relief works across Galway.
Starting this Wednesday, meetings on draft flood management plans are to be held in Ballinasloe, Portumna, Clifden, Tuam, Oranmore and the city.
Galway East TD Ciaran Cannon says the OPW’s decision to exclude South Galway from the list of venues is ‘deeply insensitive’ and ‘careless’.
He says Gort, Ardrahan, Craughwell and Kinvara were some of the areas worst affected by flooding in the county last winter.
The first public consultation will take place at Ballinasloe Civic Offices this Wednesday between 2 and 7.30pm.
Further details of the series of meetings set to take place over the coming two weeks can be found on www.opw.ie.
Fine Gael Deputy Cannon says the situation represents a poor start to providing flood relief in South Galway.
