Galway Bay fm newsroom – Supermac’s boss Pat McDonagh is making a fresh bid to build a motorway service station in Co. Clare.
Last month, An Bord Pleanala refused planning permission for a Barack Obama Plaza-style motorway stop just off the M18 outside Ennis.
Supermac’s currently operates a plaza outside Moneygall in Co. Offaly and another recently opened plaza near the M6 at Loughrea.
Last Month, An Bord Pleanala refused permission to Pat McDonagh for a new rest stop and drive-thru just off the motorway linking Limerick and Gort outside Ennis.
According to the Irish Independent, Pat McDonagh will be submitting fresh plans for a motorway stop to Clare County Council in the coming days.
The local authority originally gave the green light to a proposed development earlier this year, but a number of appeals brought the case to An Bord Pleanala.
It subsequently refused permission on three grounds and found that the development would not integrate satisfactorily with the rural and flat landscape in the hinterland.
Pat McDonagh’s plan to build the first service station on the M18 between Limerick and Gort would involve the creation of 100 operational jobs and a further 80 positions during the construction phase.
