Approval has been granted for the final stages of upgrade works at Portumna Marina to bring the long-awaited project to a conclusion.
The works so far have involved refurbishing the existing harbour area and toilets, including the re-decking of existing mooring fingers and new service bollards.
Government approval has now been given for trenching works at Marina Road to facilitate the installation of a new state of the art energy efficient lighting system.
Consent from the Minister for Regional Development, Rural Affairs, Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht was required due to the close proximity of the works to protected structures in the area.
Following the installation of the lighting system, a complete overlay of the road will be carried out to bring the half million euro marina upgrade works to a conclusion.
Councillor Jimmy McClearn says the completion of the project is a major step forward for tourism in Portumna.
