Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway County Council is to hire an ecological monitoring firm to oversee long-awaited flood mitigation works on the Dunkellin River and Aggard stream.
Earlier this year, the works – which were due to start in June – were postponed until mid-September.
It’s expected the project will take up to three years to complete.
The works will consist of channel deepening in Craughwell village, channel widening at Rinn Bridge, selective channel maintenance downstream of the Rahasane Turlough and channel widening from Dunkellin Bridge to the N18 at Kilcolgan.
It’ll also include the completion of maintenance works and culvert replacement works along the Aggard stream.
Galway County Council is now assessing tenders for the ecological monitoring of the works during the construction phase.
The contract will involve terrestrial and aquatic monitoring in a number of phases, starting this month.
