Minister says winner of Capital of Culture title will benefit hugely

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Arts Minister says the winner of the European Capital of Culture 2020 title will benefit hugely from the designation.
A ten member group from Galway made a final presentation to a panel of European judges in Dublin yesterday.
The bid book was presented in detail to the judges – and is now available to the public at galway2020.ie.
Galway is facing competition from Limerick and the Three Sisters – Kilkenny, Waterford and Wexford.
The winner of the prestigious 2020 title will be announced at the National Concert Hall in Dublin shortly before 1 this afternoon.
The Galway 2020 team set off on a bus at around 7 this morning, and has now arrived in Dublin.
Minister Heather Humphreys says that the designation will be extremely beneficial for the winner.
A big screen will be set up in the city this afternoon to show the announcement of the European Capital of Culture 2020 winner
The screen will be set up at Mainguard Street to live stream the result from noon.
Speaking to Keith Finnegan, City CEO Brendan McGrath says the whole county has supported the bid.
However, he says the excitement has been marred by sad news from Nice, as its emerged a city council worker has lost his brother in the attack.
