NUI Galway among victims of alleged glass fraud

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A father and son are to stand trial after they were accused of fraud by supplying cheaper glass instead of fire resistant standard to several building jobs across the country, including one at NUI Galway.
57-year-old Seamus James Laverty and his son, former director of Glassworks Ireland Ltd, 26 year old James Laverty were jointly charged with 41 offences at Antrim Magistrates Court.
Seamus James Laverty and his son James Laverty are to face 39 charges of committing fraud by false representation after they claimed to have supplied fire resistant glass to various building suppliers.
However, the glass supplied was standard laminate glass.
According to the Irish Times, NUI Galway spent over 51,000 euro on the glass.
In total the pair are accused of fraudulently selling glass to a total value of 300 thousand pounds Sterling.
