Galway Bay fm newsroom – The former owner of the Sacre Coeur Hotel in Salthill has paid tribute to its staff after a fire ravaged the now derelict facility.
The blaze at Lenaboy Gardens broke out shortly before 7 last evening and was attended by six units of the fire service.
Firefighters continued to battle the flames until around 2 this morning.
The hotel which was popular for GAA homecomings, weddings and many major occasions has been unoccupied for over ten years since its sale.
Gardai are now carrying out a technical examination to determine the cause of the blaze.
Former hotel owner Sean Dunleavy says his parents started the business as a four-bed guesthouse in 1951.
He told Ollie Turner the fire represents an end of an era for his family and the staff from over the years.
