Popular Tuam doctor and Cheltenham horse breeder killed in crash

Galway Bay Fm newsroom-Tuam and surrounding areas are in shock today after it emerged that the man who died in a car crash in Co Tipperary last evening was named locally as Dr John Waldron from Bishop Street.
The popular Tuam doctor, who was also well known in horse racing circles is understood to have been returning from a Point to Point meeting in Ballingarry when his car was in collission with another vehicle at Fortmoy Cross, Borrisokane, Co. Tipperary at 5.15 last evening (Sunday).
Dr Waldron who was in his early 70’s was pronounced dead at the scene and his body, as well as the injured driver of the other car, a woman in her 60s, were taken to Limerick Hospital.
In horse-racing circles Dr John Waldron is well known as the breeder of Faugheen, named Irish Horse of the Year in 2015 which went on to win the 2015 Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham, back-to-back Christmas Hurdles in 2014 and 2015 as well as several other high profile races.Dr Waldron was also mentioned in the song by Tuam band The Sawdoctors titled Merry Christmas Tuam.
Dr Waldron’s friend, retired MEP Mark Killilea, says he was due to travel with him today to a race meeting in Kerry where one of his horses was running.
Dr Waldron is survived by his wife Dr Mary, three in family, his sister, brothers and a wide circle of relations and friends.
