Over 50,000 Galway homes without broadband

Galway Bay fm newsroom – It’s been revealed that more than 50 thousand homes and 11 thousand businesses across Galway have no access to broadband.
It’s the highest figure in the entire western region – with thousands more Galway homes without high-speed internet than in Limerick, Mayo, Roscommon, and Clare.
The properties span more than 3,700 townlands across the county, of which 1,700 have 10 properties or less.
51,200 homes are without broadband – while a further 11,300 businesses have no access to high-speed internet.
According to the Irish Independent, many towns will not be served by commercial operators and will require state intervention – these include parts of Portumna, Killaloonty and Moycullen.
Killeany, near Headford, is the largest townland in the county which will not be served by private internet providers, with a population of 321.
Galway Roscommon Fianna Fail TD Eugene Murphy says access to high-speed internet is crucial to the recovery of rural Ireland.
