Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway city and county has retained 7 Blue Flag Awards for 2016.
An Taisce has announced the recipients of the International Blue Flag Award and the National Green Coast Award for this year’s bathing season.
The areas in the county which have retained Blue Flag status this year are Traught, Cill Mhuirbhigh, Loughrea Lake, Trá an Doilín and Trá Mhór Indreabhán.
Salthill and Silverstrand have retained the coveted Blue Flag status in the city and both these areas have also retained Green Coast Awards.
Six areas in the county retained Green Coast Awards – Aillebrack, Dumhnach, East End Inishbofin, Renvyle, Trá Inis Oírr and Trá gCaorach Inis Oírr.
Minister for the Environment Simon Coveney presented the awards at a ceremony this afternoon.
