Galway Bay fm newsroom – Apple has been accused of ‘jumping on the global warming gravy-train’ as day two of the oral hearing on the company’s Athenry data centre gets underway.
‘Energy and climate change impacts’ is the first of three major topics being discussed at the hearing, which is expected to run until the end of the week.
Around 40 people have gathered at the Connacht Hotel for this morning’s proceedings.
The first submission of the day, from a member of the public, outlined concerns over Apple’s energy policies, saying the company has jumped on the ‘global warming, renewable energy gravy-train.’ The appellant says the public will end up subsidising Apple’s significant energy usage, resulting in higher costs for the consumer.
The technology giant will respond to these concerns later today.
The hearing continues.
