Galway Bay fm newsroom – Apple has told an oral hearing that the selected site for its 850 million euro data centre in Athenry has huge infrastructural advantages, and will allow for future development and investment.
Up to 100 people are gathered at the Connacht Hotel in the city for the hearing.
Apple has told today’s proceedings that it is committed to becoming a part of the local community, and will ensure that the development will not cause any disturbance or negative environmental impacts.
The county council granted planning permission for the centre at Palmerstown, Tobberroe and Derrydonnell last September.
However, this decision was appealed to An Bord Pleanála by 8 groups and individuals, while a further 20 have submitted observations on the application.
12 groups or individuals who have made submissions or observations have indicated that they will speak at today’s proceedings.
The oral hearing is being overseen by An Bord Pleanala inspector Stephen Kay and is expected to continue until the end of the week.
