Galway Bay fm newsroom – Work on expanding a well-known city hotel is set to get underway at the end of the summer now that final planning permission has been granted.
The city council originally granted permission to John Francis, who owns the Menlo Park Hotel, to build a 3-storey extension.
This decision was appealed to An Bord Pleanála, but the higher planning authority has now upheld the city council decision.
The appeal raised concerns about parking at the hotel, however despite this the board granted permission for the new rooms and bigger bar and restaurant with 7 conditions attached.
One condition stipulates that the proposed access onto Coolough Road be omitted.
Assistant Manager at the Menlo Park Hotel, David Keane says work should begin by the Autumn and it will be in three phases.
