Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Galway County Councillor has raised concerns that the new pay by weight waste scheme may lead to the contravention of EU competition laws.
Connemara area councillor Tom Healy says under the new system many people may be forced to choose a single provider and this could create a monopoly in these areas.
He has also raised concerns that many householders will lose the option of ‘pay as you go’ refuse collection with the scheme.
Councillor Healy says this may have a detrimental effect on waste collection and recycling.
