Galway Bay fm newsroom – Portumna Workhouse committee says it’s willing to allow campervans to use its carpark while works at the marina in the town are ongoing.
The upgrades at the marina are not due to finish until July, and concerns have been raised over the possible impact on local tourism.
Portumna Workhouse says its carpark can be used for campervans while upgrade works are underway at the marina.
This is on the condition that the council provides temporary fencing to section off the facility.
Councillor Jimmy McClearn is urging the council to set up the fencing as soon as possible, as tourists have already begun arriving in Portumna.
Meanwhile, the county council is considering introducing a charge for the use of the campervan facilities at Portumna marina.
Director of Services Jim Cullen says to mitigate maintenance costs, the local authority may consider introducing a modest charge for campervans staying in the area.
