Galway Bay fm newsroom – Inishbofin is the first Irish island to receive an international ecotourism award.
The Ecotourism award, which is recognised by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, will be presented to organisations involved in promoting the island today.
Inishbofin has been recognised for its Bronze Age settlements, monastic sites, a Cromwellian fort and its walking and angling trips.
According to the Irish Times, Cnoc Suain near Spiddal and Acton’s beach-side camping near Clifden have already been recognised under the programme.
