Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Galway contender for a Seanad seat on the Administrative panel has moved up to 7th place following the 5th count this afternoon. (28/4)
Independent Connemara area Councillor, Tom Welby has a vote of 81 thousand and 10 following the latest count.
The quota to get elected to the 7-seat panel is 140 thousand 501.
So far, Kerry Fianna Fáil Senator Mark Daly and Sinn Féin’s Niall O’ Donnghaile have been elected to the Seanad on the Administrative Panel.
Former Galway- Roscommon general election candidate Maura Hopkins looks like she’s in contention to take a seat as she is in third place with almost 118 thousand votes.
Connemara area Councillor Tom Welby is currently in 7th position and there are only 7 seats, but transfers could change the positions of the top grouping.
Last night, city-native Alice Mary Higgins, the daughter of President Michael D Higgins, secured a seat in the Seanad as part of the NUI Panel.
She’s the first woman elected to the Seanad from the NUI Panel in 35 years.
Ahascragh native Ronán Mullen also retained a seat in the Seanad on the same panel.
Carraroe-based Sinn Féin Senator Trevor O’ Clochartaigh was elected to the Seanad earlier this week as was Salthill native, Gerard Craughwell.
