Galway Bay fm newsroom – The OPW is being asked to stop paying lip service to flood-affected families and businesses across Galway and get the ball rolling on badly-needed flood relief works.
In her maiden speech in the Dail, Deputy Anne Rabbitte demanded to know why the Office of Public Works was sitting on plans that have been drawn up for a considerable time.
She spoke of the indescribable hardship and grief experienced by people across South and East Galway over the past few months as considerable tracts of land remain underwater after unprecedented flooding.
The Fianna Fail Deputy also branded the CFRAM flood maps relating to the River Shannon as a ‘desktop exercise’ that were placing heavy insurance levies on homes and businesses.
Deputy Rabbitte says action from the OPW is urgently needed and points out a significant number of people across Galway are still suffering as a result of inaction.
