Galway Bay fm newsroom – The County Council has refused permission for a hardstand to remain in Derrynacleigh, Connemara.
Planners have refused planning permission to Seacruise Connemara Limited to retain a hardstand and also allow a site to be used as a picnic/viewing area and for the sale of mussels in the summer.
The site is located on a narrow strip of land between the N59 Leenane to Kylemore Road and Killary Harbour at Nancy’s Point.
In refusing planning permission for the hardstand and picnic area to remain, county planners state that the commercial development is proposed on a Restricted National Secondary Road.
This is an area where maximum speed limits apply and commercial development is not permitted outside of the 50-60 kph speed limit.
Planners therefore feel it would endanger public safety by being a traffic hazard.
Also, planners state that the commercial development would generate additional traffic turning movements which would interfere with the free flow of traffic on the N59.
