Galway Bay fm newsroom – An Athenry farmer will find out tomorrow if he’s succeeded in becoming the new President of the Irish Farmers’ Association.
Dairy farmer Joe Healy is said to have the edge on the competition, after two recent polls gave him a narrow lead over IFA National Livestock chairperson, Henry Burns.
The national county to elect the organisation’s 15th president will get underway at 9am tomorrow at the Castleknock Hotel in Dublin.
947 branches across Ireland have cast their votes for the positions of president and deputy president.
The new IFA leader will take up office immediately on election.
Pat O’Toole, news correspondent with the Irish Farmers Journal, says Joe Healy has a number of advantages over the other candidates.
