Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Environmental Protection Agency has initiated legal proceedings against Irish Water for failing to implement its programme of action in relation to the Carraroe Public Water Supply.
A boil water notice was put in place in Carraroe last month following the detection of cryptosporidium.
The EPA says where there is a failure to meet a water quality standard, it can issue a direction to Irish Water.
This requires the utility to prepare and submit an action programme to improve the quality of the supply.
However, the EPA says the action programme for Carraroe was not implemented in the agreed timeframe.
A summons has been issued to Irish Water, and the case is listed to be heard at the Dublin Metropolitan Court on May 23rd.
Sinn Féin Senator Trevor O’Clochartaigh says it’s important that the EPA follow up on these action programmes.
