Galway Bay fm newsroom – It’s been revealed that a Galway home was the the source of the biggest leakage in Ireland’s water network in recent years.
Irish Water says that leak detection teams, new technology and meters are changing the way repairs are being carried out and saving more water than ever before.
The future of Irish Water has become a major focal point in recent weeks as attempts to form a coalition government and prevent a return to the polls continue.
The utility says that repairs it has carried out to date are saving 34 million litres of water every day – enough to supply the entire county of Wicklow for 24 hours.
Seven percent of houses nationwide were using six times the national average – and a house in Galway was the worst offender by a significant margin.
Due to a major leak, the unspecified home in the county was using enough water to supply an eye-watering 325 houses.
Irish Water says that the introduction of leak detection teams, new technology and meters have changed the way repairs are being conducted – and the amount of water being saved is steadily rising.
According to the Irish Times, the utility says that metering in particular has made it much easier to detect leaks and pinpoint problems in the network.
