Galway Bay fm newsroom – The farmer who died in an accident near his home in Ballyglunin has been named locally as Michael McGrath from Laraghmore.
The body of the 59-year old farmer, who lived alone, was discovered by a relative at his property yesterday.
It’s believed Michael McGrath fell through the perspex roof of an agricultural shed while carrying out repairs on Wednesday.
He was one of a large family and was well-known in the Ballyglunin area, particularly for his singing ability and also played the accordion.
The scene was sealed off for an examination by Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority.
It’s the 16th farm death in Ireland so far this year.
