Galway Bay fm newsroom – The City Council is being urged to provide funding for a city arts group under its social inclusion budget after its funding was cut significantly.
A small protest took place at City Hall on College Road this afternoon over cuts to funding for community theatre and education project, Ala.
Ala, based in Ballybane, says it has seen its arts funding cut by 80 per cent over the past few years.
Councillor Billy Cameron says the group provides a fundamental service in social inclusion, and should be included in the local authority’s social inclusion budget.
He says the group deserves recognition for the work it does in the community.
