Satirical cartoon exhibition to go ahead at NUI Galway despite controversy

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A satirical cartoon exhibition due to open at NUI Galway today will go ahead – even if organisers are prevented from using the space planned for the display.
The ‘Secret Cartoonist’ exhibition was allegedly removed by the university amid ‘booking issues’ after it was set up at the Arts Millennium building last week.
The drawings – many of which feature University President Jim Browne – address issues such as gender equality and management of the college.
In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, NUI Galway says its Arts Office has not been involved in the mounting of the exhibition, and it is storing the material for safekeeping.
However, the Students’ Union says the exhibition will be launched as planned this afternoon – and if organisers are prevented from using the planned space, the pictures will be displayed in the SU offices.
The controversial exhibition will be launched at the Students’ Union office at Aras na MacLeinn at 1pm.
