Galway applications for census roles among highest nationwide

One thousand people across Galway applied for an enumerator position in this years census – one of the highest application rates nationwide.
The figure was revealed by Minister Paul Kehoe in a written reply to a question tabled in the Dail by Galway West TD Noel Grealish.
The 2016 census will take place on Sunday April 24th – and census enumerators are currently visiting every home in Galway to deliver census forms.
The figures show that 332 people made an appliction to fill one of just 79 positions available in the City.
Meanwhile, there were 643 applications for a further 189 enumerator positions available across the rest of the county.
Overall, 975 people across Galway expressed an interest in the positions – the highest application rate nationwide behind Dublin and Cork.
A total of 4, 661 emunerators have been recruited nationwide for this years census – with a quarter of them employed in Dublin alone.
