Galway Bay fm newsroom – The R339 Monivea Road has reopened between Cartymore and Cashla following roadworks.
Local residents and businesses had opposed the closure of the road, which was deemed necessary as part of a tie-in with the Gort to Tuam motorway project.
They lodged a petition with hundreds of signatures and made submissions to the county council.
The project was due to last three weeks, with the re-opening planned for next Monday.
However the work has been completed early and the road is now open again.
Paul Farnan owns a business in Cartymore and says the re-opening is welcome news.
