Galway Bay fm newsroom – The City Council has carried out repair works to Westside Park following considerable vandalism at the facility.
It follows the revelation this week that just one year after opening to the public, the playground facilities were largely unusable due to deliberate damage.
The local authority has now replaced a number of broken swings at the site and restored a zip-line to working condition.
However, some outstanding issues remain at the two million euro amenity – including significant and deliberate fire damage caused to the Skate Park.
Councillor Mike Cubbard says the repairs are extremely welcome – but the priority now must be to ensure the vandalism does not reoccur.
Councillor Cubbard says that CCTV funding has been secured and the works must be carried out as a matter of urgency.
