Illegal Traveller encampment returns to Ballyloughane beach

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Traveller family has moved back to Ballyloughane beach – despite a court order issued in recent weeks, ordering them to leave.
Councillor Noel Larkin says in order to gain access to the site, obstacles designed to prevent illegal entry to the site were removed.
He says the ongoing situation regarding illegal Traveller encampments is costing an absolute fortune – and the latest development will further hit the tax payers purse.
His colleague Councillor Terry O’Flaherty claims that the City Council has failed to take adequate measures to safeguard the carpark at Ballyloughane beach against illegal re-entry.
She says that 8 caravans were moved from an illegal encampment at Ballyloughane in recent weeks – but one caravan was left behind and abandoned.
Councillor Noel Larkin says an ‘extremely honest’ approach to Traveller accomodation is needed before progress can be made.
